Unlike Matthew Wexler, I'm a diehard, unrepentent G&S fan. And years ago, Peter Sellars stupid and illogical reimagining of Tannhauser taught me that in most cases, it's best to stick to the original staging and concept. But that said, what a terrific little review this is, what with its fitting in the context, the unvarnished pros and cons, the Miranda angle, etc. Bravo!
